Door Stop

I looked up this tutorial and made these doorstops from a few fun fabrics that I had on hand. Such a fun, easy project and so satisfying when  it solves just one of the many issues on the “need to get around to” list.

I finished the hand quilting on Rhys’ quilt and now to the binding!  Quilting class started last week and I have a lot of sewing to do!

Summer Harvest

I have been trying to beat the possums to our summer tomatoes with little luck. Here are some of the survivors of the heat and possums. I am extremely impressed since my gardening efforts are very limited. They taste and smell delicious and just burst in your mouth with freshness.

shells

For the past two summers I have been collecting shells from our local beach that have holes in them.  I had a few ideas swirling around in my head on what I wanted to do with them and here is one of them.  I used fishing wire and strung them in a long row to hang.  The also look really beautiful against the natural wood table as decoration.

It was a super easy project and every time I look at it I think of summer.

Mornington

Mornington

We had a wonderful week in the Mornington Peninsula on holidays.  We definitely weren’t prepared for how cold it was down there, but still really loved the holiday.  If you are ever in the Mornington on a weekend, you have to visit the Red Hill House store in Red Hill.  It is one of the best homeware stores I have visited.  Wow!  Danger to all credit cards.  It is only open on Saturday and Sunday, so prepare when to visit.  We ate, drank like kings and queens in Victoria.  The produce, wine and cheese were outstanding and so fresh and clean direct from the farms and markets.

I didn’t accomplish a lot of crafting on the holiday.  I did manage to sew together a few Halloween costumes and started another bunch of tea towels for some early Xmas crafting.  This weekend one of my goals is to decorate the house with the embarrassing amount of Halloween decorations I have accumulated.

Seedlings

Seedlings

I have never been much of a gardener.  The house we are renting has an enormous garden and since we will be here for at least another year, I have decided to embrace the summer garden and attempt growing a lot more than our token tomatoes from years past.  This shot is of the carrot seedlings I planted about two weeks ago and was starting to doubt they would actually sprout.  The kids and I headed to the hardware store to buy some fertilizer and a new shovel.   I innocently asket my husband today on advice on where to plant the garden bed with full intention to do it myself.  Mark got involved and two hours later the beds were dug and Rooster Booster installed in the soil ready for planting.  The whole family got involved digging and I can see a lot of fun gardening together in the summer ahead.

Meeting Dart

We are starting slow with the cat introductions and now they are almost friends. Things are coming along great with CoCo becoming part of the family and even sitting on our laps at night.

I am struggling in the craft arena at the moment.  I have too many things going at the moment and only work on them five minutes at a time.  The result is well….there is no result because nothing is getting finished.

The baby shower is looming this Saturday and 20 ladies are coming. Gulp. I think I may have bitten off more than I can bake / cook.  Hopefully I will have some Speed Racer craft to show later this week.

We didn’t follow up after Tiger died thinking that if the owner called it was meant to be. Well, they called and we now have CoCo a female Siamese cat installed in our home.

CoCo is not really happy about the situation and we are hoping she will come around in time. I am trying to make light about it here, but she is seriously not happy right now. I rang the vet and he said to give it time. Hopefully with time, love and good food, she will come to love us.

Right now there is a lot of hissing, claw swinging and hiding. Wish us luck!

Sloan’s God Mother is having a baby in early September. I am throwing her a shower in a few weeks and these are the invitations I made. They are copied from Anna Maria Horner’s website. How cool is her website? The pillowcase dress is on my “to sew” list.

I don’t have a theme for the shower, other than “drink lots of champagne” at my place.

If you have an good game suggestions, would love to hear them.
