Spotlight Damage

Spotlight Damage

Originally uploaded by Sew Sydney

Well, it was a big fizz on Saturday. We had lots of people turn up for the auction……. but no one bid! I felt like I threw this huge party with catering, a band, invitations and no one turned up!

When we started the sales process last year it was a great time to sell. Within six weeks it has all turned so ugly and doom and gloom in the market. I can’t believe it! How wrong could we have picked it!

I had my cry and a lot of champagne at friend’s good-bye party that night. As a plan “b” we are putting the house on the market as a “for sale” for a few weeks.

Sewing has been on the back burner because of the house campaign, but I am planning to jump back into it. I have a few unfinished projects still lingering and now two baby quilts to sew!

The photo is of the latest acquisitions from Spotlight. I have already started cutting a baby quilt out, which is really naughty considering I have a lot of already started projects that could be finished.

Better get sewing!

Tomorrow is the big day for us. 9AM Sydney time please send out good selling vibes. So far we have a lot of verbal interest, but no registered bidders. I am feeling sick to my stomach about the drama.

My biggest fear is we are going to have this auction with all these people and no one is going to even place one bid. AHHHH

Have a great weekend. Just did some major damage at Spotlight and will share pics next week with maybe a sold sticker on the sign board?

Industrial Washer Necklace

Originally uploaded by Sew Sydney

Next Saturday is our big day with the house going to auction. Sorry I have been so off the air, but this project has been my big focus at the moment. Lots of hard work, but hopefully all worth it. Fingers crossed please!

I have been enjoying some time reading (“A Year of Wonder” by Geraldine Brooks), one small embroidery project and this necklace that my friend is modeling.

The necklace is courtesy of The Small Object’s EXCELLENT tutorial. I saw it and had to make it. I love how industrial it looks with a soft, feminine outfit.

I am going to make a black one for winter and think the black with the silver washers will look sharp The back looks really feminine with the ribbon tie which again is that sweet contrast to the industrial washers. Check flickr for the back view.

Best part of the necklace…………total cost with washers under six dollars. So cute. Go make yourselves one! I have linked the tutorial here. Again, many thanks to The Small Object for the excellent tutorial!

Pink Pillows

Originally uploaded by Sew Sydney

Yeah! Back up and running. I finished the second pink quilt a few weeks ago, but couldn’t photograph it. Check out flickr for more photos. It isn’t really that different from the one I made for Sloan which was originally inspired by Pink Chalk’s stunning baby quilt.

Here is a photo of some pillows I made for the Brynn, the baby the quilt if for, and two of her big sisters. I make it my policy to always send something for the older siblings with baby presents. Nothing worse than the sad face when they open the present and there is nothing in it for them.

House showing tomorrow morning. Tidying and cleaning like mad!

MeMeMeMe….It’s all about ME!

Okay, camera is in route home!  So excited!  Should be here tomorrow fingers crossed!

I was tagged with the MeMe game by CherryBerry who has a lovely blog in NZ.  This is the first time anyone has tagged me and I was so excited someone actually enjoys my blog.  Or at least they were nice enough to say they enjoy it.

The rules are as follows:

1. Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 random and/or weird things about yourself.
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.
4. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

There are oh so many random things about me, where to start!

1.  I am fluent in Spanish. I actually completed my Uni degree in Spanish and lived / studied my third year in Madrid.  I am speaking Spanish to the kids and Rhys understands everything, but not so good at speaking.  It is amazing how easy it is to learn when they are young.

2.  I am not good at knitting and drawing.  I took a beginning class while I was pregnant with Rhys.  It was a great class and then went onto the intermediate class who was taught by one of the worst teachers I have ever had. It was so bad I walked out and asked for my money back.   One day I will have to revisit knitting.

3.  We are building a house this year starting in August if our plans get approved.  It is going to be a big project and labour of love!

4.  I just finished the book “March” by Geraldine Brooks who is an Aussie writer that lives in the USA.  She is coming to speak in Sydney in a few weeks.   One of the BEST books I have read and especially if you are a “Little Women” freak like me!

5.  I am embarking on a week of trying new recipes out of a vegetarian cookbook I got at the library.  I am always trying to eat more veggies and thought this would be a good way to try some new recipes.   My husband’s eyebrows have been raised on some suggestions, but he said he will give some of them a go.  I will post some of the good ones.

6.  My cousin is having twins any day now.  I have a few ideas in mind for a baby quilt for each of them depending on their sex.  I want to try sewing with linen like Soule Mamadoes.  I haven’t sewn with linen, so need to do a bit of research.  I’m not sure if they will turn out or not.

P.S.  Just received a call they arrived today. Boys!

7.  I love to cook.  Bill Granger has to be my favorite chef in Oz for sure.  I love when I can look at a recipe and know where to buy the ingredients.

 There you go.  Random.

I am going to tag some blogs out there that I enjoy and read:

Jodie from Jelly Wares.  She is a crafting goddess.

Lisa Jane from Lissa Jane

Stitch in Dye – new site I check out and love.

Mimi Kirchner’s site Doll.  How beautiful are her dolls?

Okay, that is only four.  I did have six, but something happened to my computer and my little boy is home from school and not interested in me finishing this.  All the best.  No offense if you are too busy to do the game.  XX
